Junior Program
Our Junior Programs are dedicated to quality and personalized instruction. Our goal is to see that the students are provided with every opportunity to develop and strengthen their skills and to acquire a broader knowledge of tennis. The programs will accommodate all levels of ability, from beginner to the tournament player.
Tournaments & Round Robins
We schedule various tennis events weekly. These events are available for each age division and for all students in the 1 ½ Hour and 2 Hour classes. All results are posted within the Club and on our Facebook page.
Free Walk-on Time
Each student in our Junior Program is encouraged to take advantage of our free walk-on court time. The students can call the club and find out what courts are open that day. This is a first come, first serve basis and is a benefit of being a member of the junior program. Students can play with either another member of the junior program or a family member. A $20 guest fee will be charged to those who are not a member of the junior program.
Junior Rate
There is a special rate for junior program students wishing to reserve court time. The rate is $30. Students can only reserve a court 24 hours in advance.
Make-up Policy
We will make every effort to make up your child’s missed class during the season.
Inclement Weather
Please visit us on www.facebook.com/nsrctennis in the case of poor weather. The site is updated daily and will provide information on closures due to weather concerns.
Progress Reports
At the mid-point of the semester, you will receive a phone call to discuss your child’s progress. Please feel free to call the club at any time with any concerns so we may address it in a timely manner and insure a rewarding experience for your child. Please visit www.nsrctennis.com for more detailed information.

Junior Program
The New Shrewsbury Racquet Club is proud to offer a full range of tennis programs for children aged 3 to 18. Our objectives change from level to level but our primary goal is to offer an environment that is both challenging and fun while acquiring a broader knowledge of the sport. We want all students to feel a sense of accomplishment, which is earned through their own hard work. These programs will accommodate all levels of ability, from the beginner to the tournament player.
All our classes regardless of skill level have specific goals set in place by our instructors. All Junior Programs are taught by certified tennis instructors, many of whom were former touring professionals or college players. We maintain a ratio of 4:1 in most classes, but 3:1 in Quick Start classes. This allows for more frequent interaction with the instructor and more balls hit.
The Junior Program is offered every day of the week and split into two 18-week semesters. The first semester is September to January, while the second is January to May.
Excel Program
The New Shrewsbury Racquet Club makes a strong effort in getting your child to play more tennis! As instructors, we know that a vital ingredient for improving is simply to play more. The students in our program are looking to EXCEL, so we delivered a program that is both challenging and fun.
In an effort to meet the demands of our students, we now offer this additional class option! Regardless of whether your child is in a 1 1/2 hour and 2 hour program, he/ she are sure to benefit from another day of training. We understand that a major hurdle in playing more is the cost. As a result, we offer this program at a substantially lower rate than your child’s first class.
Our goal for this Excel program is to offer an environment that is more drill oriented with emphasis on hitting more balls in the allotted time. Our instructors will also be incorporating cross training drills to help strengthen the core, upper & lower body, and most importantly, foot work.
This is not a match play program.
10 and Under Tennis
For our 10 and Under Tennis program, we currently follow the Quick Start format. We found this format takes an updated approach to introducing younger students to the game of tennis. With Quick Start, the balls are lower in compression; they do not bounce as high or move as fast making them much easier to hit. This allows students time to get to the ball and helps develop optimal swing patterns. The court dimensions are scaled down and the racquets are tailored for the younger player. These accommodations lead to less frustration so the students have more fun.
WHY?
The Quick Start format follows the same logic as other youth sports like baseball, basketball and soccer. Kid-sized courts with kid-sized equipment. The benefits are immediate. Within a short time students are rallying, having fun and excited for more. Having fun and playing tennis. Isn’t that the point?
High Performance Academy (HPA)
Spearheaded by Patrick Liu and Safie Moamen, this program seeks to maximize every child’s potential both on and off the
court. By utilizing modern training protocols, incorporating modern tennis technique, and maintaining the highest of
standards of performance, the High Performance Academy (HPA) program is the solution for any player looking to compete and win at any level. Participants will need to commit to tennis as a priority. The program seeks dedicated, self motivated individuals looking to take their game to the next level. Players will be challenged to become better mentally, physically, and technically on a daily basis.
Based on principles of periodization and training protocols that incorporate the technical, mental and physical training needed to cope with the modern game, the HPA program seeks to develop players with goals of:
- Playing varsity high school tennis to compete in NJSIAA year end state tournaments
- Attaining state, sectional, and national USTA rankings
- Playing collegiately NCAA (DI, DII, DII) or NAIA (DI or DII)
Players looking to join the HPA will be required to commit to six to ten hours of practice a week
to ensure proper development. These required court hours can be fulfilled multiple ways:
- HPA Groups (2 hours) and HPA Excel (1.5 hours) for the full 36 week session
- Private Lessons with HPA Staff
- Fitness Sessions with HPA Staff
- UTR matchplay or USTA tournaments
A combination of one HPA group a week, one Excel a week, one private lesson with HPA Staff a week, and UTR matchplay is recommended (as necessary based on periodization timing).
As a show of support to the most dedicated junior tennis players at the club, the New Shrewsbury Racquet Club will extend preferred pricing to all HPA students that reach the benchmark of six court hours of staff guided practices and matchplay.
